GPS metadata
GPS metadata stores location-related information such as latitude, longitude, and sometimes altitude.
Why GPS metadata matters
GPS metadata can reveal where a photo was taken. That can be useful for organization, but it can also create a privacy risk when the image is shared publicly.
Checking for GPS data is one of the most common reasons people inspect photo metadata.
What to look for
The most obvious fields are latitude and longitude, but some files also include altitude, direction, map datum, or a GPS timestamp.
If you are trying to remove location clues, it is worth checking the cleaned file again instead of assuming that one deleted field removed everything.
